Update on Derwenthorpe Heating Charges – Presentations by Owen Daggert at DRA meeting on 19th January 2015

Derwenthorpe Residents had the opportunity to hear from JRHT representative, Owen Daggart, about the background and reasons for the change in heating charges for some of the early residents of Derwenthorpe. You can view both presentations in full by clicking on each the images below:

Comment:

Clarification please regarding the difference in dwelling charges between owner occupier and rented. A difference of nearly £300 per annum. Are owner occupiers subsidising JRHT here?

As a point of interest it seems rather shocking that solicitors acting on behalf of DWH could be so incompetent as to present inaccurate agreements to buyers! Many thanks for your attention to this. ( A. Resident)

Response from Owen Daggert

In terms of the Dwelling Charge, as noted owners/shared owners pay the full £350p.a. as they are wholly responsible for the maintenance of their system.

However, for JRHT residents, through the Landlord and Tenant Act, JRHT have the responsibility for maintaining and replacing the heating system. This means that costs associated with the heating system maintenance and replacement (£285 per annum) are paid for by JRHT on our rented properties. The only cost that JRHT can pass through to our residents is the cost of metering and billing which falls outside our Landlord obligations. This cost equates to £65 per annum.

I hope that answers your query.

Kind regards

Owen
